INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions are written for smallest

size. If changes are necessary for larger

sizes the instructions will be written thus

( ). Numbers for each size are shown in

the same color throughout the pattern.

When only one number is given in black, it

applies to all sizes.

First Earflap: **With smaller needles
and A, cast on 6 (6-8) sts.
1st and alt rows: (WS). Knit.
2nd and 3rd rows: Cast on 2 sts. Knit to
end of row. 10 (10-12) sts at end of
3rd row.
4th row: K1. Kfb. Knit to last 2 sts. Kfb. K1.
12 (12-14) sts.
5th to 7th rows: Knit.
8th row: K1. Kfb. Knit to last 2 sts. Kfb. K1.
14 (14-16) sts.
Rep 5th to 8th rows twice more.
18 (18-20) sts.

Cont even in garter st until work from
beg measures 2¼ (2½-2¾)" [5.5 (6-7)
cm], ending on a WS row.**
Break yarn. Leave sts on a st holder.
Second Earflap: Work from ** to **
as given for First Earflap. Leave sts on
needle; do not break yarn.
Join Earflaps: 1st row: (RS). With smaller
needles and RS of Second Earflap facing,
cast on 3 (4-4) sts. K18 (18-20) from
Second Earflap. Cast on 24 (26-26) sts.
K18 (18-20) from First Earflap. Cast on
3 (4-4) sts. 66 (70-74) sts.
Knit even in garter st until work from
joining Earflaps measures 2" [5 cm],
ending on a WS row. Break A.
Change to larger needles and B.
Beg with a knit row, proceed in stocking
st until work from joining Earflaps
measures 3¾ (4¼-4¾)" [9 (11-12) cm],
ending on a WS (RS-WS) row.

All sizes: Break yarn, leaving a long end.
Draw end tightly through rem sts. Sew
center back seam.
Pompoms (make 2)
Wind A around 4 fingers approx 150
times. Remove from fingers and tie
tightly in center. Cut through each side
of loops. Trim to a smooth round shape.
Sew Pompom to each Earflap.
