English terminology/instructions using DK yarn and size 4mm crochet hook. Abbreviations: Ch = chain, st = stitch, sl st = slip stitch, sc = single crochet, dc/s = double crochet/s. The pattern uses Popcorn stitch – Make 4 double crochets into the same stitch/space and drop the stitch off the hook after the 4th dc and put the hook under the 4th chain going back (it will be the one above the 1st dc). Pick up the dropped st (above the 4th dc) and pull this stitch through the other from the back to the front (I find it easier to do this with the yarn to the front and out of the way). Please note – the ch2 at the beginning of each round is the first dc in the Popcorn stitch.
Sole: Chain 15 Round 1: hdc into 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next 11chs, 5hdcs in last ch to turn, hdc in next 11chs (along opp side), 4hdcs in starting chain. Sl st to top of 1st ch to complete round (32sts).
Round 2: Ch2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 11sts, 2hdcs in each of the next 5sts, hdc in next 11sts, 2hdc in each of the next 4sts, sl st to top of 1st st to complete round (42sts)
Round 3: Ch2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 13sts, 2hdc in each of the next 8sts, hdc in next 13sts, 2hdcs in each of the next 7sts. Sl st to top of the 1st st to complete round (58sts) do not break yarn.
Side of Boot: Round 1: Ch2, (remember ch2 is 1st dc so dc3 for the first popcorn) continue to popcorn into the back loop only of every other st all around. Sl st to top of 1st popcorn (28 popcorns)
Round 2: Ch2, popcorn into same st and continue to popcorn between the previous popcorns. Sl st to top of 1st popcorn (28 popcorns)
Round 3: Ch2, popcorn as last round. Sl st to top of 1st popcorn, cut and secure yarn (28 popcorns)
TOE Top: Row 1: Find centre of toe by folding boot in half along starting chain. The centre space will hold your number 3 popcorn. Go back 2 spaces. Sl st into this space and ch2 complete 1st popcorn in this same space. Make 4 more popcorns along this toe-front row. Sl st into the 6th space, cut and secure yarn. As you begin and end each row sl st to the next previous space along – saves sewing later (it may take a few attempts to get this bit right)
Row 2: Keeping work facing you, re-join yarn by a sl st into space before the previous 1st popcorn. Ch2 and popcorn along row until there are 6 popcorns (there should be an extra one either side of the last row of 5) Sl st into the 7th space, cut and secure yarn.
Row 3: With your work facing, re-join yarn by a sl st into space between popcorns 1 and 2 of previous row. Popcorn 5, pull yarn through last st and cut.
SOCK Section: Use this first round to crochet in all your loose tails. This round will also bring in and secure the toe section and will round off the corners where the toe meets the sides.
Round 1: sl st into heel end of boot, ch2 and popcorn round as before. Sl st to 1st popcorn (23 popcorns approx.)
Round 2: This is the decrease row. Decreasing is made by using 2dcs for each popcorn instead of 4dcs (do them in exactly the same way). Ch2, popcorn all around. Sl st to 1st popcorn.
Rounds 3,4: Repeat round 2
Round 5: Repeat round 2. Sl st into top of 1st popcorn and pull yarn through and cut. (I made the ‘sock section’ a little taller – but it’s up to you).
Round 6: With your edging colour sl st into a space about 5 stitches before (this gives you a chance to crochet in your loose tails) Ch1 and make 2scs into each space all around. Sl st into 1st sc, leave a weaving in tail and cut.
